Peak District Weekend: Friday 16th - Sunday 18th July2021

Overview

A weekend in the hills and forests of the beautiful southern Peak District. Clothing optional accommodation, walking and evening entertainment in a live music venue available. Additional clothing optional activities are still being discussed with venues, and may include a brewery tour, visit to a local sun club and pub/restaurant meal.

Spaces are currently limited to 30 for the walks and 20 for everything else, book now by scrolling to the bottom of this page to confirm your spot! There are options for all budgets and availabilities, please see the prices in the booking form below. The event is run at cost, neither Project PC nor Neil financially benefit from the event.

This is an informal weekend being organised on a ‘friends supporting friends’ basis. The organisers accept no liability and attendees participate at their own risk.

Please ask any questions via the Facebook groups or BN forums.

Integration OVER Segregation

The weekend is brought to you by Neil and ProjectPC, a small non-commercial group that aim to promote acceptance of the nude form in the public space. We want to encourage the shared use of spaces and in this regard:

Project PC Logo.jpg
  1. The walks have been selected on their suitability and aesthetics. The Peak District is a busy place and it is likely that we will come across many other walkers during the day. Over the last year Neil has run and walked about 500 miles in the area whilst nude, so there is some local awareness of naturism. One quieter walking route is offered for those who would prefer it.

  2. Clothed allies/supporters may join us on the walks and other activities. These will be people known to the organisers or other attendees.

  3. The campsite and restaurant and bar for Saturday night will all be open to other members of the public who will be told when making bookings or at the door that there may be undressed people present.

RULES FOR the WEEKEND

Please respect the rules below. Anyone breaching the rules will be asked to leave and blacklisted for any future events.

If you are made uncomfortable during the weekend by the actions of another guest then please speak to Neil or one of the other organisers (phone numbers will be provided for the weekend).

CLOTHING OPTIONAL, NOT NATURIST

The weekend is clothing optional rather than naturist. Guests are welcome to dress or undress as they feel comfortable. There may be clothed supporters, or people new to naturism, who join us - there is no expectation or obligation that anyone should be nude. Do not sexualise yours or other’s nudity.

CONSENT AND CONSIDERATION

Please respect other guests privacy. Don’t pester a particular guest and don’t take photos without asking for consent. It should be clear how much other guests want to interact, so look out for the hints and pick up on the signals. Conscious and sane consent must be sought before entering someone’s physical or mental space, or before any form of touch (e.g. helping someone put on a rucksack).

ACCEPTING

If you can’t contribute positively then please consider whether you need to contribute at all. This should be a supportive and fun weekend so don’t judge or criticise other guests. Give the benefit of the doubt and offer help where you can. Celebrate each other and your bodies.

DISCRETION

Respect privacy unless consent is obtained to share it. Assume other guests wish to remain anonymous unless you have obtained their explicit permission (this includes the sharing of any photos for which you have already sought consent).

COUNTRYSIDE CODE

Respect the environment you’re in. Leave no trace and be considerate of landowners and other users of the space. Be polite and friendly to other people you meet.

Itinerary Overview

Evening Friday 16th July - arrive and relax at campsite

Day Saturday 17th July - walk starting around 11am with picnic lunch

Evening Saturday 17th July - meal out and drinks at live music venues

Morning Sunday 18th July - gentle walk and/or possible brewery tour or local sun club visit

The Walks

Walks will be led by qualified mountain guides and will start late enough to allow day attendees to arrive in time. The walks will be weather dependent but hope to include:

  • A traverse of the Roaches - 8 miles, 450m ascent. Starting in farmland this walk will rise to take in the beautiful ridge line of the Roaches, with it’s sweeping views across Staffordshire, before dropping down into Gradbach Woods and the River Dane. This route is likely to be busy, and easily upwards of 20 other walking groups could be seen.

  • Gradbach Woods - 5 miles, 300m ascent. Following the River Dane as it winds through the valley before ascending through woodland to Lud’s Church and the Hanging Stone. Handily finishes by a pub! Again, this can be quite busy as it is relatively flat and follows the river.

  • Shining Tor - 5 miles, 250m ascent. Climb to the top of Shining Tor and then drop down to skirt Errwood Hall (a worthwhile diversion, but may be best clothed as can be busy with family groups) and return via a pretty valley and hill climb. This is the quieter option but it is likely several groups will still be met.

Swimming opportunities will be available on some of the walks.

Sign-up for the walks will be managed the week before the event, once numbers and weather conditions are known.

The Accommodation

Clothing optional camping will be offered at Torgate Farm. The farm sits in a quiet and elevated position with great views out over Shutlingsloe and Macclesfield Forest. It boasts a well stocked farm shop and has walks on the door step, and, for the gin lovers amongst you, the Cat and Fiddle is just up the road. Unfortunately there are no shower facilities at the campsite, but showers will be available at a nearby house.

The campsite will be clothing optional and camper vans or caravans are welcome (please just let us know in advance).

If you don't have camping gear, or are travelling by public transport, then please just let us know and we'll see what we can do to help out!

If you’d prefer to organise your own accommodation then just let us know on the form below.

Saturday Evening Entertainment

SpanishCaravan.JPG

On Saturday night we will head into Macclesfield for tapas at the delicious Spanish Caravan, before going to be entertained by some quality local acts at the live music bar Mash. Both venues will be clothing optional for the evening.

Other Activities

More details will be communicated as they become available. We are hoping to be able to organise the following clothing optional events:

• a tour or beer tasting session at a local brewery

• a yoga class

• indoor or outdoor climbing

• a visit to a local sun club

CORONAVIRUS

The event will only be run if permitted by coronavirus rules. Some amendment to the format planned above may be needed to facilitate this. If the event is cancelled by the organisers then all monies paid will be refunded.

Please do not attend if you have experienced any of the main symptoms of coronavirus or have tested positive to coronavirus in the 10 days before the event. Venues are intending to operate at reduced capacity and hand sanitiser will be provided. Guests’ temperature will be taken on arrival.

To Book

We’re currently a group of just under 20, and the booking form has been de-activated whilst I try to reserve the final spaces for female or non-binary individuals and minority groups. If you are interested in booking (even if you’re not female/non-binary/a minority group) then please contact Neil on neil.peter.201@gmail.com

The campsite costs £5 per night, and the walks are £2 a day (to cover the expenses of the mountain guides). There will also be a small cover charge (£3 to £10 depending on the bands playing) for entrance to the live music venue on Saturday night. If you’re only able to make some of the activities, and don’t want to stay for the whole weekend, then that’s fine.

Peak District Weekend: Friday 16th - Sunday 18th July2021

There’s a lot of info below - appropriate signage and reminders will be up over the weekend to help!

CORONAVIRUS

Please do not attend if you have any symptoms of coronavirus.

It will be expected that all attendees joining for the camping and entertainment complete a lateral flow test on the afternoon of Friday 16th July. These can be ordered for free at https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests. Please evidence the completed test by sending a photo of the test result to neil.peter.201@gmail.com.

If an email hasn’t been received then you’ll be asked to complete a test on arrival, which unfortunately means you’ll have to stay apart from the rest of the group for about 30 minutes whilst we wait for the result.

Arriving

Due to accommodation issues the camping will now be at my home. Please park here and call me on 07737606327 (use 01260 222 843 as a back-up if you don’t get through) and we’ll arrange a shuttle to collect you (5pm to 10pm on Friday).

If you are one of the earlier guests to arrive and are willing to drive others’ to the walk on Saturday then there will be the opportunity to park at the house.

For reference my address is Grasmere, Buxton Road, Macclesfield, SK11 0PS - it can be difficult to find so please use this pin.

CaMPing and facilities

There is limited space available in our garden; please bring as small a tent as you can for the weekend. I have several spare tents and may be able to offer one if yours is too large. If your tent is freestanding and the weather is good, then I would ask that you don’t use guidelines so as not to create trip hazards.

Facilities available:

  • Toilets and showers inside the house (which will otherwise be off limits to comply with coronavirus rules - please wear a mask if coming inside)

  • Water is available from an outside tap

  • Covered seating area

  • A gas powered two burner camping stove will be available but recommend bringing your own as well

  • Wilderness garden (for if you want some quiet space - just keep walking past the house and through the trees at the end of of the camping area)

  • Inflatable hot tub - if the weather is poor this will be removed so as to create more room in the covered seating area

  • Washing-up can be left in a box outside the house, it will then be taken in and washed for you

WHAT TO BRING

Please see here for thoughts and suggestions.

THE WALKS

Two walks will be offered each day, each led by a qualified mountain leader. The current plans are outlined below, though may be varied depending on interest and weather conditions. All walks will be meeting around 10.15 for a 10.30 start.

GPX files of the routes are available here and the meet points for the walks are as follows:

  • Roaches - see here

  • Dane Valley - see here

  • Shining Tor and Goyts Valley - see here

  • Three Shires Head - see here

To help us with organising please indicate your preferences using this form (details of each walk is in the table below):

Roaches Dane Valley Shining Tor and Goyts Valley Three Shires Head
Description Flagship route with outstanding views across Staffordshire before dropping down into woodland. This route has some steep sections and uneven terrain. This route is new to me, but I will check-it out in advance. It is away from the honeypot locations and so I expect to be quiet. Another route with elevated views of the surrounding countryside, before dropping down into pretty woodland. The longer version also takes in a moorland crossing. Walk through moorland and an old quarry to reach the popular swimming spot of Three Shires Head.
Length/ascent Long option: 8 miles, 450m ascent
Short option: 6 miles, 350m ascent
5 miles, 200m ascent Long option: 10 miles, 800m ascent
Short option: 6 miles, 400m ascent
6 miles, 500m ascent
Wildswimming Cooling/dipping at Doxey's Pool Spots along the River Dane likely None Three Shires Head - usually busy, so covering-up whilst swimming is advised
Nude at Start? Possible - parking area on a lane but usually quiet. Clothing advised, on main road. Clothing advised, on main road. Optional - marked public car park but on a quiet lane and tends to be adult rather than family groups.
How Busy? Quiet at start in farmland, but busy along main ridge (when I run the route I've met anything from 15 to 70 groups). Two short sections along country lanes. Not suitable for people who would want to use a cover-up if walking nude when encountering other groups. Expected to be quiet. Average - there will be other groups around but nowhere near as busy as the Roaches. Expected to be quiet except from Three Shires Head. The final 0.75 miles is a long a country lane.

Saturday night

Our meal is at Spanish Caravan at 6pm. A mix of tapas dishes will be provided by the restaurant so no pre-ordering is required - to whet your appetite though the menu can be seen here! The restaurant will be open to other customers but I expect that we will fill it ourselves. The cost for food is £18 per person.

At around 8pm we will head to Mash for drinks and live music. Here we will have a private room but are welcome to mix in the main bar area downstairs if we wish.

Nominated drivers or taxis (I think £10 to £15) will be needed to return to the campsite.

Both Spanish Caravan and Mash are in the centre of Macclesfield. It is advised you are clothed or use a cover-up when arriving at and leaving the venues.

WILD SWIMMING

As well as the wild swimming opportunities mentioned in the walks above, there are local wild swimming options:

  • just outside the campsite at Bosley Reservoir,

  • down the road at at the north end of Rudyard Lake

  • at Clough Brook here
